Praying for

Missionaries in West Africa

Temperatures that can top 140 degrees – and no air conditioning. Bouts of
malaria and other exotic illnesses. People groups trapped for centuries in the
strongholds of Islam and ancestor worship. Physically and spiritually, West
Africa can be one of the toughest places on earth.
  • Thank God for missionaries willing to sacrifice personal comfort and convenience to take the gospel to the farthest corners of the earth.
  • Many missionaries live in isolated conditions far from other missionary colleagues or English speakers. Ask for comfort in times of loneliness, encouragement in moments of fear and doubt, and perseverance on days of frustration. For those who do work alongside colleagues on a missionary team, pray for a spirit of unity and servanthood.
  • Many West African languages have complex grammatical and tonal structures. Ask for ears and tongues that are quick to hear and speak these languages. Pray missionaries will have keen insight regarding how to share the gospel in a culturally relevant manner.
  • Intercede for families living on the mission fi eld. Pray that marriages will stay strong and families grow close despite the added pressures of living in difficult environments. Pray that children will stay healthy and that their educational, social, and emotional needs will be met.
  • Spiritual warfare is unceasing in areas where Satan has had a stronghold for centuries. Ask for protection and strength for those who often find themselves on the front lines of the battle.
